Ashby Musem

26th September 2017

Ashby Museum held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 16th September. Chairman, Brian Berry, spoke about the work of the Museum over the year and Andrew Bridgen MP was invited to address the meeting before the formal proceedings began.

At the AGM, the North West Leicestershire MP congratulated the Museum on its achievements over the past year.

The programme of walks has been successfully extended during the past three years to cater for groups from outside the town. Recently the Museum hosted a U3A group from Glenfield and a group of retirees from Leicestershire County Council, both enjoying a talk, a town history walk and a buffet lunch.

The activities of the Museum are not just confined to its building but activity is also busy out in the wider community. The Museum has been instrumental in helping the St Helen's heritage group set up their exhibition; loaning items to Loughborough Museum and library for their displays and also loaning items to the Leicestershire and Rutland Heritage Forum for a display at Hinckley.

The Museum will be involved with the trustees of the Royal Leicestershire Regiment and the Friends of H.M.S. Conway, for the commemoration of the sacrifice of Philip Bent in WW1, and very much a part of the service at the War Memorial in October.
